- Read through the quotation.
- Identify the speaker, listener, and context of the quotation.
- Examine the quotation carefully
- Pull all of your ideas into one strong, cohesive response.
- Don’t forget the “HOW/WHY” rule: explain how and why the quotation is important.

2. To show the reader a diferent way of life.
3. To make an action seem more real.
4. To be the source of conflict or struggle.
5. To symbolize an idea.
